Jackie “Jack” Carroll Gestes went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, and all those who preceded him in death who were also in Christ, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 73 years on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 9 AM at Lorenzo Baptist Church.
He was born on February 1, 1945, in Matador, TX, to William Oscar Gestes and Ora Lee (Nichols) Gestes, the sixth of seven living children. His family moved to Lorenzo, TX, in 1946, where he loved growing up and graduated from Lorenzo High School in l964. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann (Jones) Gestes on March 28, 1965, in Clovis, NM. She was the love of his life. They had three sons: Jackie II, Tommy, and Rodney.
He worked in various capacities through the years such as grocery store clerk, carpenter, welder, etc., until he worked for 17 years as a store manager at the Lorenzo Grain Coop. He was with A to Z Tire Company and then managed the Phillips 66 Wholesale in Ralls until his retirement. He had a great faith in Christ that enabled him to deal with various health issues over the past 18 years.
He loved his Lord, his family, his friends, and his community so much. He was one of those who grew up in the 50s and 60s who loved cars, music, and being with his sweetheart. He had a great sense of humor, always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and four older brothers.
He is survived by his three sons: Jackie II and wife, Joanie; Tommy and wife, Shelly, of Hereford; Rodney and wife, Julie, of McKinney, TX; by a sister, Ann Parchman, of Grand Prairie; and a brother, John Gestes, of Lorenzo. He had nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
