Dr. Jack McCarty, D.O. passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas.Jack was born on June 12, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas and was adopted by W.D. and Blanche McCarty. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1959 and received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Personnel Management from Texas Tech University in 1965. While attending Texas Tech, he was a member of the Army ROTC Cadet program. After graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. Jack proudly served for 14 years, achieving the rank of Major. At the age of 30, he decided to go to medical school. He graduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1978 and was in private practice for many years. Dr. McCarty first cared for patients in Woodland Park, CO and later in Muleshoe and Lubbock, Texas. He joined UMC Physicians in 2007, working at Westwind Family Medicine and Orchard Park Family Medicine. He was a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner, was Board Certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He held numerous positions in both TOMA and the ACOFP, including the office of President. Dr. McCarty loved practicing medicine. He loved the people he worked with and his patients.Jack married Cindy Gregory in April of 1965 and they had three children, Greg, Jeff, and Susan. Jack enjoyed hunting, scuba diving, traveling, ranching, and spending time with his family. He also loved working on his “projects.” If he wasn’t drawing a diagram on a napkin or the closest piece of paper, he was building, fixing, or redesigning something.Dr. McCarty was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Blanche McCarty, and his son, Greg McCarty. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; his son, Jeff McCarty; his daughter, Susan Alger, and her husband Brian; his grandchildren, Kirstie Morgan, Stephen Cross, Jacob Alger, Destiny Alger and Jace Alger; and three great grandchildren.The family will celebrate Jack’s life of 80 years at 3:00pm on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
