With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Howard Lee Babb on April 18, 2024, at the age of 81. Howard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born in Dodge City, Kansas, on February 17, 1943, to Vester Howard and Frances Elizabeth (Hailey) Babb. He graduated from Dodge City High School in 1961 and attended Dodge City Community College and Southwestern College where he played football.
After retiring from a career in sales, Howard returned to college and got his Educational Specialist degree and spent years as a school psychologist in Wichita Public Schools. Howard was an active and faithful member of Dodge City Church of Christ, Westlink Church of Christ in Wichita, where he served as an Elder, and Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, where he served as Facilities Minister. Howard also served his community as a Boy Scout leader, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and other outdoor activities. Howard’s favorite activity was watching and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their pursuits. Most importantly, anyone in need was Howard’s neighbor. His compassion, kindness, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family will forever be cherished and remembered.
Howard will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Naomi Babb; children, Dr. Eric Babb and wife Lyndsey of Lubbock, TX, Michael Babb of Morgantown, KY, and Kristin Snyder and husband Todd of Braselton, GA; grandchildren Evan, Kathryn, Addison, Ethan, Hudson, Harlow, Kaitlyn, Jared, Cydney, Samuel and wife Madison, and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Haddie, Bexley, and Bristol; sister, Mary Bartholomew and husband Lane; brother, Douglas Babb and wife Sandy.
Howard was proceeded in death by his parents, Vester Howard and Frances Elizabeth Babb, and a granddaughter, Emily Grace Babb.
Howard’s family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Home of Lubbock www.childshome.org or Treasured Times https://www.fumc.com/treasured-times, a respite care ministry for those in the early stages of dementia, in Howard’s memory.
