Hong Y. Lee passed away on January 10, 2019. A service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers in Lubbock, Texas. A reception will immediately follow.
Hong was born in 1934 in Seoul, Korea. He immigrated to the U.S. to attend college and graduate school, receiving his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics. He was a professor of Agricultural Economics at Texas Tech University. Upon retirement from Tech, he taught at Seoul National University as part of the Fulbright Program, then returned to Lubbock. He was active in the Kiwanas Club and an avid sports fan.
His survivors include his wife, Yum; his children, Henry (Melissa) Lee, Mimi (Ben) Rodman, and Mia (Cole) McKenzie; and his grandchildren, Michael, Meredith, Samuel, Carolyn, and Ian.

  1. Dr. Lee was my father’s thesis advisor at Texas Tech, and he taught the first agricultural economics class that I took at Tech. I am grateful to have known him and for his influence on my education. Peace and comfort to his family.
