Hattie Glendora Parker, age 90 of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. She was born to the late Elton Strickland and Effie Qualls Strickland on June 22, 1927.
Glennie, as she was known, attended school in Rochester, Texas, and most of her adult life was spent in the New Mexico communities of Eunice, Hobbs, and Carlsbad. She was married to Jack Parker for 54 years and their deep love and commitment was unwavering no matter what life held. Her passion in life was her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and her children.
In retirement she began playing golf at the age of 60, taught by her loving husband, and had 2 holes in one, a feat not accomplished by many lifetime players. She was a wonderfully positive influence on the lives of her family. Jack has often said that meeting her “saved my life”. All her grandchildren note the spiritual impact she had on their lives. “MaMa”, as she was affectionately called, would say if she didn’t wake up with a song in her heart, she would pray for one. Not a day went by without MaMa singing and praising the Lord.
Glendora is survived by her husband, Jack; four of her seven siblings, sisters Rachel and Donna Sue; and brothers Claude and Michael. Four children, Belinda, Gary, Jonna, and Lary. Sixteen grandchildren and forty-four great-grandchildren.
Glendora requested a private funeral with her family.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the past few years at Lakeview Christian Home, Carlsbad, NM; Garrison Geriatric Center, Lubbock, Texas; and Covenant Palliative Care for their incredible support the past week.
