She married Lonnie Johnson on December 23, 1961, at Shallowater.Harvella was a member of The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots, which was established in 1929 by 99 women pilots. This organization promotes advancement of aviation through education. Amelia Earhart was elected the first president of The Ninety-Nines in 1931. During the war, Harvella worked with other women on the air force base in Enid Oklahoma folding parachutes for the troops and working on the B25 Mitchell Bombers. She was a member of Eastern Star, a Free Mason Organization. Harvella loved to play contract bridge and was a member of many other organizations, such as, The Ladies Golf Association and The Women’s Bowling Association. She was also a member of Broadway Church of Christ.Survivors include her son, Harvey (Foy) Wilson; grandchildren, Shellie (Tony) Snook, Jamie (Joe) Lara, Jeff (Tosha) Wilson, Tamara (Eddie) Deaton; 7 great grandchildren and 12 great great- grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie Johnson Jr., daughter in law, Foy Wilson; father, George Andy Thomas; mother, Flosella Thomas; son, James P. Wilson Jr; and grandson, Daniel Wilson.
