Gordon was born in Lamesa, Texas to Louie Lee Drennan and Joyce LaNelle Jayroe of Welch, Texas. Gordon and his brother Grant both received Christ and were Baptized at First Baptist Church of Welch as children on Easter Sunday.

He received his education from Dawson ISD where he played basketball and was involved in FFA. He married his High School Sweetheart, Kathy Diane Howard on June 7, 1977. Early on, he was very involved in team roping and calf roping.

Gordon and Kathy farmed in Welch, Texas for 34 years as well as investing in a peanut harvesting business. He eventually became a peanut farming consultant in his later career which led him and Kathy to Pocahontas, Arkansas.

They raised two daughters in Welch, Jessica Drennan Thomas of Wolfforth, and Jamie Drennan Crockett of Welch. As a family, they were involved in 4-H, horse shows, and stock shows.

His most important job was being “Podo” to his 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson. He treasured and enjoyed each and every one of them.
