The family of Fred Tobias will celebrate his life of 75 years at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will gather to recite the Holy Rosary Friday, January 1, 2021 at 5:00 PM followed by a visitation. In support of the health of his family, seating is limited to 65 seats, face coverings are mandatory, and the staff will enforce social distancing in compliance with state regulations. These precautions are to ensure that the family and our community are safe. The service will be live-streamed on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.Fred Tobias of Lubbock, TX, gained his angel wings Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the age of 75. He was born January 20, 1945, to Victor Tobias Sr. and Catalina (Alvarado) Tobias in Lockhart, TX. Fred was the 5th of 12 children.Fred’s family moved to Lubbock when he was in the second grade and he attended Casey Elementary in Wolfforth, TX.On August 15, 1964, Fred married the love of his life, Sally (Fabila), at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lubbock. They were happily married for 56 years. They had four children, Debbie, Brenda, Freddie and Bobby.In his early years, Fred worked at Reese Air Force Base as a dishwasher, followed by Monterey High School as a custodian.Fred spent most of his life as an experienced Gas Pump Service Repairman. He began working for Plains Pump Company in 1971, where he learned to install and repair gas pumps. In 1985 he began his self-employment years with Tobias Pump Service. In 1992 he began working for Horkey Oil Company, followed by Goodson Service Co. out of Midland before retiring in 2011.Fred was a Catholic and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.Fred was an intelligent man and a jack-of-all-trades. He could do lots of things. If he didn’t know how to do something he’d find a way. He was always there for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether it was to fix a flat tire, a fence, help you move, or support an athletic event no matter where it was located.He was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who loved unconditionally. Fred loved the company of his family and friends. His saying was, “the more the merrier.” He was a kindhearted, sweet, giving and gentle man. Fred never hesitated to give a helping hand to anyone.He was very witty, enjoyed teasing and liked to have fun and joke around. He had a weakness for sweets, especially a good Milky Way.Fred enjoyed playing and umpiring softball. He coached little league baseball and helped coach in the Lubbock Youth Softball League.He enjoyed vacations, traveling all over the U.S. and creating memories with his family and visiting a casino or two. He loved listening to oldies music and watching old westerns.Fred was loved by so many and will be dearly missed. The empty space that is felt in his absence cannot be filled. He will forever be in our hearts,He is survived by his loving wife Sally, daughter Debbie Barela and husband Benny, daughter Brenda Tobias-Griffin, son Freddie and wife Veronica, and son Bobby; 5 grandchildren: Benny Barela III, Kimberly Barela Garza; Krystle Griffin, Danny Griffin, Jr.; Samantha Tobias; and 5 great-grandchildren Jaedyn, Jason, Jenna, and Jocelyn Barela; Kyron Ware: and numerous nieces and nephews.Surviving siblings are Gabriela Trevino, Isabel Hernandez, Louisa Pena, Estella Sanchez, Rachel Deleon, Ester Tobias, Gloria Barraza, and Irma Garcia.He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Victor Tobias Jr., Maria Martinez, and Antonia Garcia.The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. Joshua Hill, NP Michele De La Garza-Flores and the Covenant Hospital Nursing Staff.
