Frances Flournoy Bilbrey was born on March 26, 1940, in Knox City, TX to Luther and Jewell Epley Flournoy.
Frances graduated from Lubbock Cooper in 1959. She attended Jesse Lee Beauty School in1962 and owned various salons throughout her career. She also owned Dubs Paint & Body, Woody’s General Store, Lucky 7 game room, and operated the concession stand inside the Lubbock Horse Auction. She was the first female race car driver in Lubbock. She had a VW beetle #61 that she raced for 5 years and won championships at Silver Dollar in Idalou and West Texas Raceway. She also loved competing in the Powder Puff races. Her love of racing and involvement in the racing community was well known. She would record the races for everyone to enjoy and spent years as a scorekeeper. She also helped support her 3 sons and 2 grandsons in their racing dreams. She was also an avid bingo player and loved George Strait. She was a member of Slide Baptist Church for 70 years.
Frances is survived by her husband Jimmy Bilbrey; son Woodrow Bilbrey(Melanie),son Robby Bilbrey(Julie) of Huntsville, Alabama, son Cale Bilbrey (Becca) of Albertsville, Alabama Grandchildren Cody Oldham, Stoney Montgomery, Chance Bilbrey, Wolfgang Bilbrey, Jewell Bilbrey, Noah Bilbrey, Jonah Bilbrey, Willow Bilbrey, Pearl Bilbrey, and Lena Bilbrey; 3 great grandchildren Brother Jim Flournoy(Betty), Brother Harold-deceased(Melva) as well as many other people she treated as her own children.
She is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Jewell Flournoy; and Brother Harold Flournoy.
Frances, 84, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024.
