Faye was born August 16, 1934, to John and Sarah “Eva” Huffman Gray in Longview, Texas. The family moved to Odessa, Texas when Faye was an early teen. She graduated from Odessa High School and attended Odessa College before transferring to Abilene Christian College, graduating with a degree in general business in 1955. She married Bobbie Glenn Stewart on April 6, 1957 at the North A & Tennessee Church of Christ in Midland, Texas. Faye was a secretary for Humble Oil Refining Co. of Midland before marrying Bob, and thereafter enjoyed being a homemaker for the rest of her life. They made their home and raised their three children in Grants, New Mexico where Bob was a partner in Stewart Brothers Drilling Company and where they resided for more than 20 years. They were founding members of the Church of Christ in Grants. They retired to Albuquerque, and later to Chandler, Arizona. In 2004 they moved to Lubbock and became active members of the South Plains Church of Christ where they served in the small groups ministry and Faye coordinated funeral meals, an extension of her love for cooking. She was an exemplary children’s Bible class teacher and an enthusiastic hostess of meal gatherings in her home. While living in Grants she volunteered with the hospital auxiliary, PTA, and Republican Party. She was creative and inquisitive beyond her kitchen, enjoying painting, needle crafts, attending theatre, reading, photography, and word puzzles. For many years she and Bob enjoyed road travel, especially to South Texas. And in their senior years of high school, Faye took some of her grandchildren on trips to Europe, Hawaii, and New England and Eastern Canada. She also enjoyed traveling with Lubbock Christian University Tour groups, and with Bob attended a variety of LCU functions, especially Master Follies and Impact. Along with her Christian faith, her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a living, walking calendar of birthdates.
Faye is survived by children Rob (Darla) Stewart of Lubbock, Randy (Terry) Stewart of Las Cruces, Reisa Williams of Burkburnett; grandchildren, Pieper (Anthony) Rodriguez, Maloree (Chris) Munn, Chad Stewart, Tyne (Max) Long, Tate Stewart, Tara (Sam) Souder, Kailee (Casey) Kreger, Grace (Andrew) Kausler;15 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Linda (Charles) Gray, and nephew Trey Gray; and many other beloved nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces on Bob’s side.
She is preceded in death by husband Bob, parents John and Eva Gray, and brother, Charles Gray, as well as her brothers- and sisters-in-law.
In honor of Faye’s life of faith, the family recommends memorial contributions to Lubbock Christian University, the Children’s Home of Lubbock, or New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales.
She passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
