Enrique Martinez, 70, passed away on September 9, 2024. He was born March 23, 1954 to Julian and Maria Diaz Martinez in Chihuahua, Mexico. He married Maria Elena Rodriguez on August 29, 1974 in Alpine, Texas. Enrique graduated from Socorro High School in El Paso, Texas in 1972. He earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Sul Ross State University in 1975. He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1978 and began practicing in Lubbock, Texas. Enrique specialized in federal law, specifically immigration. He spent a lifetime helping people achieve the American dream. He also served as a magistrate for Lubbock County and Lubbock Municipal Court. He was passionate about classic cars, enjoyed traveling, and loved spoiling his grandchildren. Enrique was a beloved car guy, husband, father, and grandfather.

Enrique is survived by wife, Maria Elena Martinez; children, Enrique Martinez Jr., Michael Martinez, Rebecca (Brandon) Beardain, Daniel (Mercedes) Martinez; grandchildren, Daniel (Kaitlynn) Martinez, Alyssa Martinez, Sarah Beardain, Avery Martinez, Marisa Martinez, Finley Martinez, David Beardain, Andrew Beardain, Emily Beardain, Mia Martinez; siblings, Petra Abbott, Lupe Martinez, Rosa Maese, Julio Martinez, Mary Candelaria, Jesus Martinez, Leticia Strawn.

He is preceded in death by parents, Julian and Maria Martinez; siblings Aurelio Martinez, Beatriz Martinez, Gracie Martinez.

I first met Rick when I worked for the City of Lubbock City Marshal's Office. He was not only was a GREAT attorney, but a GREAT Magistrate as well. But what I loved most was when we talked about muscle cars. He and I would talk about what our favorite cars were. Especially Olds 442, and Cutlasses. He invited me to come and look at his collection; but sadly, I never got to see them. Rest in Peace my friend. Ozzie

Like everybody else, I will miss Ricky. I loved, loved playing basketball with him and talking life. He was always upbeat, kind and friendly and a very good lawyer. My deepest condolences to the Martinez family on the death of your husband/father/grandfather. I didn't know him very well but my mother and family lived on the same street a long time ago. I know Daniel from working at the City. My son Javier and daughter Sandra are friends of Daniel. May Enrique RIP and God be with your family in this time of grief and celebration of his life.✝️🙏✌️

Our deepest condolences to the family. I have know Enrique for many many years. He helped many family members and friends and myself in many ways. It hurts deeply his loss, he will be greatly missed by the community and myself and my family.

I am so sorry to hear about Rick. He has been a colleague and friend for over 40 years. One of the kindest people I have ever met and someone who was always willing to help another attorney understand immigration law issues. He will be missed by both his clients and fellow attorneys. What an outstanding legacy he has left his precious family.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of Mr. Martinez. I knew him a short time, but we would talk when he came to the Lynn County Courthouse. I was always truly amazed at how he cared for so much for his clients and fought for them. Rest in Peace Mr. Martinez and may God bless his family and comfort them during this difficult time.

I still vividly remember meeting Enrique on my first day as a law clerk for Pat Abeyta in 1980. Enrique would go on to admirably represent scores of immigrants chasing the American dream. A life well lived, Godspeed Rick.

I just saw you Friday, September 6th. I am so glad you stopped by (for work), but you always took a seat in my office to chat and bring me up-to-date with your blessed family. You were always talking about them & I enjoyed hearing about your beautiful wife, children & grandchildren. If you thought Paris was amazing, I can only imagine what you think of Heaven. I will keep that in mind, always!
