Emmett “Bud” Thomas was born on September 6, 1930, to Tommie and Ola (Tucker) Thomas in Slaton. He graduated from Bula High School and Draughon’s Business College. Bud married Cherry Sanders on June 14, 1951, and she preceded in him in death May of 1983. He served in the US Air Force for four years and following his discharge from the military he moved to Enochs and began farming. He also farmed in Bledsoe and Morton until his retirement. After retiring from farming, he moved to Clovis, NM, and was involved with the John Deere Dealership. Moving back to Morton, Bud worked in the ginning business for many years before travelling the country hauling cotton modules. On January 1, 1993, he married Bernice Mikulenka in Shallowater. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and member of Lodge #1236. He was a member of the Texas Ginner’s Association. He enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting. Bud was an honest, hardworking man, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
Bud is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughter, Peggy Hurley and son, Ted Thomas and wife, Jalisa all of Lubbock; step-daughter, Brenda Allen of Plano; grandchildren, Cheri, Kaleb and Zac Hurley all of Lubbock; and Alayna Thomas of Midland; sister, Dorothy Piland of Great Bend, KS; brothers, Pete Thomas of Morton, Virgil Thomas and wife, Wanda of Searcy, Ark, and Jerry Thomas and wife, Tammy of Lake Stanford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dwight Hurley; siblings, Christine Pugh, Ruby Holladay, Dolly Richmond, and Gerry Thomas.
