A celebration of life service for Loretta Farquhar, 77, of Big Spring will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Big Spring, Tx with Sandy Sandlin officiating. A dessert reception and visitation will follow immediately after the service in the First Christian Church fellowship hall.
Loretta passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Tx.
She was born July 28, 1940 in Gorman, Tx, to the late Roy Cecil and Mabel Jolene (Taylor) Bennett. She married Ronald Carson Farquhar, June 21, 1958 in Big Spring, Tx. This coming June would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Big Spring Tx and served as a Deacon and the Chairman of the Fellowship Committee. While living in Odessa, Loretta served on the PTA board at Dowling Elementary and held multiple offices with Americana Study Club. Loretta and Ron owned and operated Chaparral Trucks where she was “the boss”.
Ron and Loretta moved to Big Spring in 2008 to care for her mother, Jolene Bennett. She was active in the Howard County Republican Party, the Hyperion Club and numerous bible studies.
Although Loretta was active in many organizations, her passion was always her family. Over the course of her life, Loretta loved the lake and spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her Nanny. She loved the beach at Destin, Florida with family and friends. She loved collecting antiques and wildflowers. She attended countless rodeos, baseball, softball and basketball games. Loretta was an accomplished chef and had an artistic ability that she used in many mediums from water color painting to interior decorating.
Survivors include her husband, Ron of Big Spring; son Mark and his wife Janis of Odessa, daughter Lori and husband Russell Grizzard of Midland, daughter Kristi and husband Jeff Payne of Lubbock; a sister Bobbie and husband Gerald Wooten of Big Spring; Grandchildren Mason and Delores Williams, Kimberly and Brandon Blake, Carson and Kresha Grizzard, Lauren Grizzard, Jordan Payne and Riley and Bonnie Payne; Great grandchildren Sebastian, Ashton, Julian and Jonas Williams, Camille and Olivia Blake, and Barrett Grizzard. Loretta leaves behind her friends, whom she had many and loved fiercely.
