The family of Dr. Mark Dorsett will celebrate his life of 67 years at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. We invite you to view the live-streamed service here on this page, sign his virtual guestbook, and download his memorial keepsake folder to your device for printing. On June 30, 1953, Michael Mark was born to Olan and Joe Ann “Jody” Dorsett in Lubbock, Texas. He married Sidney Sealy on January 7, 1982, at New Home Methodist Church in New Home.Mark was truly a West Texas guy. After graduating from Cooper High School, he continued his education at Texas Tech University, then attended and graduated from Texas Tech School of Medicine. Mark saw no need to change schools and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology as a loyal Red Raider. Mark also served as a faculty member for Texas Tech’s medical school for many years. After leaving the faculty, he began a private OB/GYN practice. Many of his patients became friends and actually looked forward to their appointments to “catch up” with or get travel advice from their friend and physician. As an obstetrician, Mark delivered many babies, and some of those babies returned to have him deliver their children. Mark maintained great working relationships with his colleagues and hospital nursing staff, who respected his knowledge and skill.Mark was a man who knew who he was. You always knew what side he stood on. Mark loved medicine, but he loved his family more. Since his retirement from practice, Mark cherished his time spent with his sons and their families. His grandchildren, who affectionately referred to Mark as ‘Doc,’ were a great source of joy and love for him.Mark was an avid traveler and reader – with his iPad always available. He made sure his family experienced the world around them through travel, faith, and a wealth of knowledge. Recently, Mark and his wife Sidney enjoyed a new passion for RVing. Their travels took them across Texas and, most recently, to Arizona.Survivors include his wife, Sidney Dorsett; their children, Matthew (Whitney) Dorsett and Jordan (Mackenzie) Dorsett; grandchildren, Kye Baker, Grady Dorsett, Maybree Dorsett, and Marley Dorsett; siblings, Don (Janelle) Dorsett; and Ann Latham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olan and Joe Ann “Jody” Dorsett.
