Douglas Boone was born August 29, 1935, to Douglas and Zelma (Mosteller) Boone in Ropesville, TX. He married Nancy Walker on June 1, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Shallowater, TX. Douglas and Nancy spent 63 years together before her death on May 21, 2019. They had a one-of-a-kind love and were truly best friends. They spent their time together building a wonderful life raising their children and later doting on their grandchildren. Douglas, known as “Poppy” to the grandchildren, was a very caring and strong man who always worked hard for his family. He started his career working as a Warehouse Manager & Retail Manager with Furr’s, Inc. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in 1970, he began his teaching career as a High School Math Teacher. Douglas loved teaching and had great affection for his students and fellow teachers. He was always eager to share endearing memories from his years of teaching and about the many students who had made an impact on his life. Douglas taught in the Crosbyton, Lubbock and Shallowater School Districts. After teaching for 10+ years, Douglas returned to Furr’s Inc. (later to become Fleming Foods) as a Non- foods Buyer where he continued to work until his retirement.
Douglas is survived by children, Rick (Lara) Boone, Davona (David) Paschall, Kimberly (Bryan) Compton; grandchildren, Eli Beck, Ian Boone, Drake Boone, Lillie Paschall, Tristan Paschall, Hillary Brown, Will Porter, Nancy Porter; Five great-grandchildren; and sister, Sandra (Nick) Ford.
He is preceded in death by wife, Nancy Boone; and parents, Douglas and Zelma Boone.
