Known to all as Doug, he was born on August 27, 1955, to Cleo and Pauline (Gamblin) Woolard in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He married his beloved wife Cathy Harris on February 19, 2005, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Affectionately known also as “Pa”, Doug loved being outdoors. Early on, camping and fishing were some of his favorite activities. Golf, however, was one of his greatest passions and welcomed every opportunity to share that love with family and friends. Bowling, Rangers games, he loved it all. This was especially true when it came to his greatest joy; spending time outside on the veranda, playing darts, drinks in hand, enjoying the result of all the hard work he and Ma invested in creating their own backyard paradise.

Doug is survived by his wife, Cathy Woolard; children, Josh (Katrina) Woolard, Justin Woolard, Chrissy (Mike) Fortner, Colita (Josh) Messer, Chelsie Pergrem; his grandchildren, Aiden Woolard, Fausto (Ashley) Montes, Jonathan Montes, Seth Montes, Sarah Montes, Brayden Messer, Hagen Messer; and his siblings, Sheri Kay Daley, Patsy (Ronnie) Crawley.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Brenda Walenburg and Deborah Grobe.

Dearest Woolard family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Dear Doug will forever be in my great memories of my year in Texas. Such a beautiful and generous man. Sending all my love. Cath ‘Your Australian daughter’

I am Praying for the family! So sorry for the loss of Uncle Doug! He was always a kind hearted and loving person. When I was young he always made sure he made me smile! I only have good memories of him!! Love, Prayers and hugs to all!

I wanted to let all of y'all know I was sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He didn't know me too well and I didn't know him too well, but the pictures on the tribute video appear as though y'all were all in touch with each other. You will have that good memory to hold onto, just knowing you took advantage of the days while he lived, to be with him. It's not like that for everybody, for whatever reasons. Hold onto the good memories.

I am grateful for having the chance to have Doug as a host dad when I was in the U.S. I'm grateful for ALL I have learned with him. I want my brothers Josh and Justin to know that I love them a lot and I keep them in my prayers. I will always be here for you! ❤️

Our dad was a truck driver when we were younger. Doug was probably 2 or 3. Dad often brought us gifts when he came home from a delivery Once he brought Doug some cowboy boots. They were so small. Doug took them, looked up at our dad and said" where's the horsey". We all had a good laugh. It was so cute. I miss him. Love him so much. I look forward to seeing him in heaven

I have fun and cherished memories of my Uncle Doug living next door to us. Riding in the El Camino and babysitting my cousins Josh and Justin. So sorry for the loss of your father.

Cat we only got to meet once but if my uncle Doug loved you and you 2 became as 1 then I love you too..I hope we will meet again so ya can fill me in on what you 2 had going on (hobbies, what you 2 enjoyed doing while together..lya

When I met Doug at Houston Airport in 1998 I was greeted by his warm smile and was immediately impressed by his kind personality. As a 15-year-old girl in a foreign country I felt safe the moment he and his family took me in - especially because I found myself in the presence of an extremely kind-hearted person, something that was already clear to me during our car drive to Dayton. I will always remember him with great fondness. My heartfelt condolences go out to Doug's family, especially to Josh and Justin. My heart is with you these days.

Some of my best memories growing up was having family coming over to our house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We celebrated many of them with Uncle Doug. Usually he was either getting on to Josh and I for being mean to Justin or he was passed out on the couch after stuffing himself with my Mom’s cooking. When I was 17 I rebuilt a 1978 Chevrolet truck. 3 days before he was moving to New Mexico he helped me finish putting it together and painted it for me. He taught me that a good paint job requires a lot of sanding and not to worry about the small stuff. He will always be in my thoughts.

To Doug’s boys and to his family: We cherish the good times and many memories we have of Doug. We remember bowling, playing volleyball, his attempt at taxidermy his love for the Statler Brothers and popcorn every night. But mostly we remember the man he was. Doug was a devoted husband and father. He loved his family and would do anything within his power for them. He was talented, had an amazing work ethic, He was loyal and was a good friend. A man with a big heart. A man to be proud of. We know this is hard, and you will miss him, so know that we are praying for you all.

I’ve always had great memories of Uncle Doug, playing golf in the yard and driving the golf cart. Josh and Justin definitely thinking of y’all during this time.

Daddy Doug, thank you for making me feel like a part of your family during my exchange year. Thank you for making me your Danish daughter. You even gave me a new name - Line Bob. I will never forget your warm smile, your caring personality and how much you watched the weather channel.
