Dorothy Jean Jordan was born in San Angelo, Texas, on July 9, 1929. On Friday, April 14, 2023, she peacefully passed at age 93 from failing health, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas. In 1948, she married C.J. “Jake” Jordan, and they moved to Texon, Texas, where he worked for Big Lake Oil Company. They lived in a company-owned community near Texon until they moved in 1954 to Lubbock, Texas, with Linda (Age 5) and Barry (Age 2). They lived in Lubbock until 1968 when they moved to Oklahoma City. In 2012, she moved back to Lubbock to live with her son, Barry, who cared for her for 11 years.
During her long and exceptional life, Dorothy was a Christian, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a passionate, caring human and an amazing Me Maw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Later in life, she, Iletia, and Max loved to watch The Price is Right and The 700 Club together. She also watched The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, Women’s Golf, First United Methodist Church services, and David Wilson at Southcrest Baptist Church. Her hobbies included reading, golf, crocheting, sewing, and word puzzles. She began playing golf at 63 and played in a Ladies league in Bixby and Lubbock, where she won several silver plates. All her adult life, she loved to sew and make Linda’s clothing, her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s baby clothes, and later aprons for her great-granddaughters. She also crocheted many blankets, baby accessories, and gifts for her family.
Dorothy had a few sayings. “Some people are so afraid of dying that they forget to live”; “I like to think of sunbeams as those we love reaching down to remind us, they are not very far at all”; “When you miss someone who has passed away, think of it as a blessing that you were lucky enough to have had the kind of bond that makes you miss them that much.” She also had many favorite songs, such as Come Home by Carrie Underwood, Amazing Grace by Alan Jackson, and Mama was a lot like Jesus by Jeff Bates, to name a few. Her family remembers her enjoying the Big Band sounds of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Harry James. She loved Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, June Carter Cash, and Johnny Cash. Dorothy lived a full life and celebrated her 93rd birthday with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Barry Jordan of Lubbock, TX, Linda Jordan Parsons (Donnie Parsons) of Norman, OK; grandsons; Trey Parsons (Anna Parsons) of Oklahoma City, OK; Todd Parsons (Stephanie Parsons) of Norman, OK, Matt Jordan of Lubbock, TX, and Mike Jordan of Lubbock, TX; great-grandchildren; Jake Parsons of Norman, OK, Will Parsons of Oklahoma City, OK, Stella Parsons of Norman, OK, Brody Jordan of New Braunfels, TX, and Isabella Parsons of Oklahoma City, OK; family friend, IIetia Norris; and her faithful dog of 2 years who was “the smartest dog ever known, Max.
