Donald Ray Dillard, 87, passed from this world Wednesday, September 25, 2024, while at home in Lubbock, Tx. Don was born April 23, 1937, in Denton County to Marvin and Willie Mae Dillard. His family attended Chinn’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Copper Canyon where the Dillard family had been members for generations (1899).
After graduating, Don joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Homestead, Florida, then later in Morocco. He was part of the honorable Rifle Brigade. After serving in the military, he worked for General Dynamics until he relocated to the Texas Panhandle. The Panhandle would remain his home for the next 50 years. When Don was young, he started restoring antique cars in his spare time, and he continued this hobby for decades. He was meticulous in his work regardless of the project. His attention to detail was applied to restoring furniture, giving homes a facelift, and making men’s suits. He was talented and creative in so many ways most notably with dancing. His ability to see dance moves in his mind when listening to music was a special gift. Don loved Round and Square Dancing. He taught Western, Round, and Line dancing through the years. He also organized the dance club, Tuesday Rounds. He brought so much joy to dancers across the country with his cuing and dance lessons.
Don was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, as well as a doting husband to his belove Nadeen, wife of 24 years. They loved watching Texas Tech baseball and football games, traveling, camping, and spending summers in the cool mountain air with Dolly, their beloved schnauzer.
Don is survived by his wife Nadeen; four daughters: Deborah Saenz, Deanna Hance, Kimberly Boileau and husband Stan, Laurel Damron and husband Steve; as well as two stepsons: Jackie Parchman and wife Melba, Danny Parchman; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
