Donald Keith Sims, 78, passed away November 6th, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born September 16th, 1940 in Amarillo, Texas to Earl and Frankie Sims. Donald (aka Don, Duck, Pa….) married the love of his life, Carolyn Sims, on Carolyn’s 16th birthday and celebrated 55 fantastic years together.

There is no doubt that Don’s family was his pride and joy, from the moment of marriage to now consisting of 3 kids, 8 grandkids (plus their spouses, of course), and 10 great-grandkids. His second love was for sports… most specifically baseball. He was an avid fan and could watch or talk baseball 24/7. Having played himself, he also coached and mentored many. His great-grandsons were often found in his room watching baseball games and/or discussing a recent practice or game. Pa was a jokester, always trying to lighten the mood and make people laugh and feel comfortable. He enjoyed reminiscing as he was often trying to remember the specifics of a story that made him chuckle.

While we will all miss his smile, his laugh, his sarcastic remarks, his baseball knowledge and his encouraging words, we know he is the happiest he has been in over 3+ years as he is now reunited with the love of his life, his great-grandson whom he can finally hold and those whom passed before him. We will carry him with us each and every day. We may smile as we attempt to remember the details of a memory and we may cry because we miss him with every ounce of our being. We will cherish his life, the pictures that remain, and the stories that friends and family will continue to tell for years to come. May the Lord hold our Pa tightly in His arms, while we hold him forever in our hearts.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers; a sister; and a great-grandson.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Frey; brother, Clinton Sims; kids, Tammie Folger and husband Randy of Lubbock, Wayne Sims and wife Lesley of Abilene, and Jerri Seeker and husband Berry of Midland; grandkids, Kristi Laverty and husband Matt, Kourtney Mullins and husband Michael, Kerstin Clark and husband Jake, Dustin Seeker and wife Charity, Kennedy Mckinnon and husband Tanner, McKenzie Sims, Jordan Seeker, and Jodie Seeker; and great-grandkids, Addison, Kimber, Kallen, Austyn, Haygen, Brantley, Keagan, Macyn and Dax.  A private ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 9th.

The family requests that memorials be made to The Arthritis Foundation and Hope Mommies in honor of Donald Sims.

  1. Mr. Sims was my baseball coach for three seasons in little league. He was fun-loving man and I have great memories of those summers in Midland. Sorry to hear of his passing, my condolences to his family.

  2. I’m sorry that I could not attend services today. I know that you are happy, being reunited with your beautiful wife, Carolyn, your brothers Kenneth, and my dad Gyp and your sister Earlene. Good took another angel home.
    Love, your niece,
    Kristi Sims

  3. Such a beautiful tribute to Don and his legacy of family and community. He will be missed here, but it is such a blessing to have such wonderful memories and to know he is rejoicing in Heaven with Carolyn. I love y’all, you’re in my prayers.
