Don E. McInturff passed away March 2, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, where he lived and enjoyed 97 years of pleasure with his family and friends.

He was born in Lubbock on November 24, 1926, and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant during World War II, receiving a commission as a 2^nd Lieutenant in 1947. Don attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1949. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command, the General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, attaining the rank of Colonel before retiring.

He and Pauline Lokey were married on June 19, 1948, and had 65 years of joyful living and were blessed with two sons, Russell N. “Rusty” McInturff and Terry G. McInturff, both of Lubbock, two wonderful daughters-in-law, Alyson Ely McInturff and Peggy Adams McInturff, as well as four granddaughters, Nicole Frischer, Alicia McInturff, Shannon (Gume) Valenzuela, and Sarah (Steven) Gooch and seven great-grandchildren, Jeremiah McInturff, Matthew McInturff, Elysse McInturff, Torie Valenzuela, Carlie Valenzuela, Caroline Gooch, and Weston Gooch.

Don farmed in Lubbock and Crosby counties from 1951 to 1965, at which time he and his partner, C.R. “Choc” Hutcheson, began acquiring interests in oil properties in the Permian Basin and ultimately throughout the United States. He was associated with many civic and professional organizations. Don served as the Chairman of the Lubbock County Hospital District, the supervising body for University Medical Center during its formative years. After his retirement as Chairman of the hospital district he was honored with the naming of the Don E. McInturff Conference Center at University Medical Center. He also served on various committees for civic matters as well as for the Health Sciences Center at Texas Tech University and for Texas A&M University. Don was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Homebuilders Sunday School class for over 40 years.

Private entombment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum.

Don and Pauline and their two sons Rusty and Terry were lifetime friends and Don was a classmate at correspondence course for Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Don and I both graduated from U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth KS. He and a mutual friend Choc Hutcheson made money purchasing outstanding mineral interests while I lost money at some investments. All of us attended a Saturday morning breakfast club at various restaurants. Food was occasionally inedible but fellowship was incredible. I can't attend Visitation because am frail sheltered place and would likely break down. Warm thoughts for Don Pauline Rusty and Terry.

We are sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. McInturff. His impact as a mentor and leader at UMC and Lubbock will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. Mr. McInturff was more than just a businessman; he was a guiding light. Through his mentorship, he shared knowledge, instilled confidence, and inspired growth in countless individuals. His legacy extends far beyond the professional world—it profoundly touched lives. The room lit up whenever Mr. McInturff and his wife, Pauline, walked into UMC events. Their genuine interest in others, their ability to remember names, and their warm conversations made them cherished figures. They were like friendly neighbors who made you feel instantly at home.
