A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Diana Kaye Kinslow Akins is scheduled at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends.
Diana Kaye Kinslow Akins, 75, of Lubbock, TX, went to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, on March 6, 2024, after battling illness.
Diana was born on December 25, 1948, to Aaron S. and Virginia Kinslow in Lubbock, TX. She graduated from Coronado High School in 1967 and then from Texas Tech University in 1971. During her years at TTU, she was very active in the civic sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, and a member of the American Home Economics Association.
She was employed with the Lubbock County Tax Assessor’s Office, then went to work for Hobart Service Company. Her last place of employment was with Hamilton Roofing and Acoustical Company, where she served as Office Manager, until her retirement. She met John Gregory Akins at Texas Tech University, and they married on November 10, 1973, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After being married, she and her husband became very involved in the local chapter of the Lubbock Chapter of Jaycees, a statewide service organization. During this time, she held various offices within the Jaycees organization. She grew up in the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lubbock, TX. Throughout her long years as a member of the church, she saw the church go through two natural disasters, including the Lubbock tornado of 1970. She served as the Secretary of the Women’s National Convention and served as the Stated Clerk of the Session for many years. During her time with the church, she was active in several women’s groups including, Grace Circle and GAP. She also helped with Pantry of Care and Pumpkin Patch, which she greatly enjoyed. She also served in the church choir and loved her fellowship with her brothers and sisters in the Lord, especially when they gathered to play games like dominos on Wednesdays.
Survivors of Diana include her mother, Virginia Kinslow, of Lubbock, TX; her husband, John Gregory Akins, of Lubbock, TX; her daughter, Erin Akins Loafman (Erich), of Dawson, TX; her son, Brandon Akins (Ashley) of Lubbock, TX; her grandchildren, Sterlin and Linzi Loafman, Harlow Akins; great-granddaughter, Layla Loafman; her brother, Mark Kinslow (Peggy) of Lubbock, TX; and her sister, Karyl Vitale (Keith) of Round Rock, TX; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews..
She was preceded in death by her father, Aaron S Kinslow.
She was married to John Gregory Akins for more than 50 wonderful years. She was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother. Her greatest joy was her family, including the extended family of Odessa, TX, and the immediate family of Lubbock, TX. She was very active in her children’s lives, creating many fond memories and life experiences. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
