Delton Wayne Young, 85, of Lubbock, TX passed away on April 6, 2024. He was born on December 14, 1938, to Calvin and Wilma Young in Ashmore, TX.
Delton grew up in the farming community of Loop, Texas in Gaines County, attending Loop Schools. He was enrolled in the first class at Lubbock Christian College, what would become Lubbock Christian University in September of 1957. It was there that he met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Anne Ratliff.
Living in Lubbock and Littlefield in the early years of their marriage, Delton and Anne eventually settled in Wellman, Texas where they lived and farmed for 54 years raising cotton and three children. Delton served on the Wellman Independent School Board of Trustees for 13 years. He loved the community and the close bonds formed with life-long friends. He and Anne were members of the Wellman Church of Christ, the Brownfield Church of Christ, and later, the South Plains Church of Christ after moving to Lubbock.
Delton and Anne loved camping with a group of dear friends every year in the mountains of New Mexico. Delton never met a mountain road that he didn’t want to travel even when others were not as sure!
Delton is survived by his children: Allen Young and wife Leslie Dutton, Douglas Young and wife Shauna, Sharon Cox and husband Ed, his sister Vivian Renfrow and husband Ken, and brother Earnie Young and wife LaNette. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren – Heather, Sarah, Grayson, Samuel, Graham, Tiffany, Rachel, Griffin and 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne Young, his parents Calvin and Wilma Young, brothers C.L. Young, Edwin Young, Ray Young, sister Sharon White, and daughter-in-law Karri Young.
