He married Roxie Schoppa on February 7, 2005, in Lubbock, Texas. Danny loved life; he was a golden glove boxer on the verge of being an Olympian. After his short boxing career, he worked for Fisher doing bodywork and upholstery. This led him to join the pit crew for Mike Thermos, who raced funny cars and broke track records. Of course, he couldn’t stop there, so he competed in drag racing with his own car. Danny was an adventurous person and loved to compete. He took up shooting pool and would play against some famous pool sharks. He would make his own pool sticks so that he knew they were the right balance for him. Danny spent his work career with Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 404. His initiation into the Union was Nov. 7, 1978. He traveled with the union and worked in shipyards in California, and he even helped build an airplane for the Lubbock Firefighters training facility. He worked at many of the surrounding power plants. He retired from the union after 42 years on Nov. 1, 2007. These are just a few of the adventures that he was on. In his spare time, Danny enjoyed teaching his sons how to work on vehicles and the trick of shooting pool.Danny enjoyed making people laugh, and every chance he got, he would start talking like Donald Duck or tell a joke or two. He was a very sociable individual and would meet up with his friends for coffee every morning to catch up on the daily gossip. Every Friday, without fail, he and Roxie would hit the town to dance the night away and laugh and enjoy not only their own company but those of many friends.Danny was not only a father to his four kids, but he stepped up to be a father figure to his two stepdaughters, Nancy and Becky. Danny would do what he could to make sure they were taken care of, but not just them; anyone he came across that might need the help.Survivors include his wife, Roxie Sammons; their children, Danny (Lisa) Sammons, Rhonda Sammons, Ola Robert Sammons, William (Misty) Sammons, Nancy (Brandon) Ward, Becky (Travis) Zeller; grandchildren, Melissa (Reggie) Mack, Erica E Carrizales, Michael (Stephanie) Carranco, Shani (Marcus) Taylor, Shyenne Lightfoot, Tawny Lightfoot, Cheston Sammons, Memphis Sammons, Ivy Sammons, Hailee Sammons, Kaden Allen, Kolby Allen, Kinsley Zeller, Brayden Zeller; numerous great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews that he loved very much; and brother Eddie Sammons. He was preceded in death by his former wife Bessie Irine Sammons, October 15, 1997, his sister Katherine Ann Eschenberg, June 21, 1990, and his parents.
