Dale Gordon Bryant, Sr., 93, of Lubbock, Texas, entered the Lord’s presence June 23, 2024. He was born on August 14, 1930, in Batesville, Arkansas, beginning a journey where he would meet the love of his life, Norma Lee Hines, and his Savior, whom he faithfully served over 70 years. Dale grew up in rural Arkansas with his parents Charles and Ethel and older sisters Charlene and Eldeen, who were thrilled to now have a real life “baby doll” they could dress up for tea parties. Dale learned the value of hard work by toiling on the farm and helping his dad at the family tire shop (it also got him away from the tea parties).
After graduating high school and obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, Dale answered his country’s call and joined the United States Air Force, serving with distinction in Okinawa during the Korean War. At the close of his military service, through the witness of a close friend, Dale gave his life to Christ and never looked back. Following his honorable discharge, Dale obtained an additional BS degree in electronic engineering and began working as an engineer at Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he met Norma and the two wed on March 22, 1958. In 1960 Dale and Norma built a house in Cedar Hill, Texas, and in 1961 and 1964 welcomed two sons into the fold, Dale Gordon Bryant, Jr., and Scott Alan Bryant. Avoiding the layoffs that plagued many in the defense contractor industry, Dale faithfully and tirelessly supported his family until retiring in 1992.
Prior to Dale, aged 90, and Norma moving to Lubbock in 2020 (during a world-wide pandemic, no less), Dale had served in about every volunteer capacity available in a Baptist church, but his primary focus was serving as a Deacon and teaching the Bible for almost 60 years. The attendance in his classes attested to his ability to rightly divide the Word of Truth and practically present solid biblical principles.
Dale is survived by Norma, his wife of 66 years, son Gordon and his wife Debbie, son Scott and his wife Najat, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Dale’s family knows he has been reunited with his parents, sisters, in-laws, and many, many other family and friends, and they are thankful he is perfectly healed. But he will be missed in so many ways—Dale was incredibly smart, had a wonderful, dry sense of humor, and loved to debate anything, especially religion and politics. But even more important was the fact that he was kind, faithful, always the gentleman (holding doors for ladies even while using his walker), and always willing to serve others. Thank you Dale, Dad, Gramps, and Great-Gramps for a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mission Dignity, an organization committed to meeting the food, housing, and medical needs of retired Southern Baptist ministers, workers, and their widows.
