Clara Ethel Jones passed away on July 10, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas
Clara was born August 23, 1935, to Howard Alton and Mary Frances Boswell Halford in Whitney, TX.
The family moved from Hill County, Texas and settled in Lubbock, where she attended grade school, junior high and Lubbock High School.
She Married Alfred Eugene Jones on November 22nd, 1952, in Clovis, NM. Clara worked for more than 30 years for the phone company. She began her career with Ma Bell and stayed with the company through each of the changes that occurred after deregulation and ended up working with AT&T. She was highly respected and known for her hard work.
After she retired from AT&T, she and Al moved to Lake Whitney. While at Lake Whitney, Clara found a hobby that became a business. Clara, her husband Al and daughter Laurie traveled all over Texas doing craft shows. Clara and Al later spent some years in Hot Springs, Arkansas before returning to Lubbock. Al passed away in 2016. They were married for 64 years.
Throughout her life, she showed everyone what it truly meant to love unconditionally. Clara never hesitated to put her family’s needs before her own, and her unwavering devotion was an inspiration to all that knew her. Whether she was cooking a delicious meal, or simply sitting down to chat, she made us all feel loved and valued. She was truly a shining light in everyone’s life that knew her.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Wilshire on 4th and Bridge Hospice for all their love and support in her final days.
Clara is survived by children, Laurie Fanning, Jackie and husband John Hollis, Eugene (Gene) and wife Wendy Jones; grandchildren, Danielle Mills, Amber Valdez, John-Michael Hollis and Cody Parker; great-grandchildren, Brayden Mills, Natalie Valdez, Noah Valdez, Joshua Valdez, Ashley Parker, Brandon Parker and Alexis Parker; siblings Sue Bailey, Gay Bennett, Julia Halford, Chris Halford and wife Barbara, sister-in-law, Kay Halford, and numerous Nieces and nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Jones, sister Linda Thompson, brother Bud Halford and parents, Howard and Mary Halford.
A Celebration of life will be held from 2:30-3:30 with a reception to follow until 5:00 at the Bessie Mitchell house inside the Grapevine Botanical Gardens on July 29th,2023.
