Charles O. Garrett

Charles Garrett was born on December 29, 1930, in Plainview, Texas to Max E. and Edith Babb Garrett.  After graduating from San Angelo High School in 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served 4 years. He loved music and played trombone in high school and continued as a trombonist in the Navy Band.  He enrolled at Texas Tech in 1952, and married Marietta Cantrell on May 14, 1953, in Clovis, New Mexico. After his graduation from Tech in 1957, he worked for Johns-Manville Corporation until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wanda Woods and Betty Hunter.

Charles is survived by Mari, his wife of 64 years; daughter Terri McIlraith and husband Mike of Fort Worth; son Todd Garrett and wife Ashley of Midland: son David Garrett and wife Shannon of Lubbock; and 7 grandchildren Michael McIlraith of Los Angeles; Cody Garrett and wife Tanya of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Brandon Garrett and wife Megan of Fort Worth; Mason Garrett and Colton Garrett of Lubbock; Claire Garrett and Brock Garrett of Midland; and one great grandchild Kal Garrett of Fort Worth and one great-grandchild on the way.The family would like to express their gratitude to the following individuals from Hospice of Lubbock: Elizabeth Abraham, Ruth Simmons, Veronica Buescher, Yvette Casias, Carol Satterwhite, Dr. Jeremy Brown, and Judy Krchmar.

Charles died peacefully at home on Easter Sunday, April 16, with family and friends present.
