Charles D. Jones, age 94 of Lubbock, Tx, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 27th at his home.
Charles was born September 1, 1929, in Paducah, Texas to Charlie and Etta Jones. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Lamb County and settled just north of Amherst where they set up their family farm. He had a wonderful family, which included his brother John, and sisters Dorothy, Billie, Laura and Linda. Charles graduated from Amherst high school in 1947 and enlisted in the US Air Force shortly thereafter. Charles served his country for four years during the Korean war and was very proud of his time in the military.
When he returned to Lamb County after the war, he purchased a farm outside of Littlefield where he settled with his wife Viola. Their family quickly grew to four children, creating a beautiful life together. In addition to maintaining the farm, Charles also served as the County Clerk for Lamb County from 1964 through 1971. After leaving the County Clerk’s Office, Charles managed a co-op gin in Amherst until 1979. He then went to work for Southwestern Public Service and remained there until his retirement. In 1992, Charles married Patsy Bevers and they settled in Wellman, Texas for the next several years. In 1997, the pair moved to Lubbock. Patsy and Charles had so much love for one another, and Patsy was such a caring wife. They travelled and created so many memories, while having fun and living life to the fullest.
In addition to his military service, Charles was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, where he exemplified the principles of fellowship, charity and service to others. Charles dutifully served as a deacon at First Baptist church in Amherst celebrating his faith and his commitment to his community. Later in life, he and Patsy transitioned to Lakeridge Methodist Church in Lubbock where they continued their spiritual journey.
Charles never once met someone who didn’t become a friend. He would always welcome people with a big smile and a firm handshake. He was able to touch so many during his life, and he will be greatly missed by all who he was able to meet.
Charles is survived by his devoted and loving wife Patsy of 31 years. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship through his three sons, David, Jerry and Larry, and his cherished daughter Jana Ford. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Linda Smith. Additionally, he leaves behind his stepchildren, Gerald Bevers, Kathy Murphy and Sherry Mead who brought joy to his life. His legacy extends to his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry forward his spirit.
