Carolyn Williams Marks of Dallas, Texas passed away in her sleep on Saturday, September 29, 2024 at the age of 86. She spent her last few years living with her eldest daughter’s family in Lubbock, Texas.
Carolyn was born on August 24, 1938 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of the late Daniel Call and Ellen Carolyn Carpenter Williams. Carolyn graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956 where she was a member of the “Friendly Fifteen”, a strong friendship group started in the second grade and celebrated to this day. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was the 21st family member to join the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and graduated in June, 1960 with a BA Degree in Interior Design. One of her favorite accomplishments was being the Co-Owner of Carl Wright LTD, an antique and gift shop located in the Quadrangle in Dallas. She attended Executive Secretarial School in Dallas, Texas, graduating in August, 1989 and began her 25 year career as a legal conveyancer. After retiring, most of her spare time was spent in fulfillment of her passion of a being a full time Grammy to her “boys”. Carolyn enjoyed traveling the world as a young lady, cruising on the Queen Mary, and participating in family vacations.
Her time was spent with the Verlanic family in Alaska, Wisconsin, and Texas, and the with the Kuehn family in Richardson, Texas. She took pride helping out where ever needed. She deeply loved her grandsons and grand dogs, and truly cherished her entire family.
Carolyn was a Brownie leader for her daughters in the Girl Scouts of America, and served as Administrative Treasurer and Treasurer of
cookbook sales for the Junior League of Dallas. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Co-Chairman for the fundraising ball of the Women’s Guild of the United Cerebral Palsy. She loved handwork, so it was fitting that she was a founding member of the Dallas Needlework and Textile Guild where she served as President, By-Laws Chairman, Parliamentarian and Membership Chairman.
Carolyn is survived by her loving daughters Ellen Matson Marks Verlanic and her husband Ed; and Kathryn Williams Marks Kuehn and her husband David; her cherished grandsons who were “always so sweet and thoughtful” Daniel Karch Verlanic, Tyler Call Verlanic, Andrew Thomas Kuehn, and Christopher Daniel Kuehn; Carolyn’s loving younger sisters Harriet Williams Peavy and spouse Dan, and Suzanne Williams Nash and spouse Buddy. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn requested that donations be made in her memory to either of the dog rescues Dallas Street Dog Advocates (DSDA) or the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue (TGPR).
Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, faith, and love for her family and community will be remembered and cherished forever.

Grammy always had a soft spot in my heart. Reading her obituary I learned so much about her I didn’t know! I will miss seeing the bond between Ellen and mom, and the always entertaining banter between Ed and Grammy. Rest easy sweet angel. Your mark has left an impression on so many lives and you will be loved and missed.
