It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Aimee Mitchell. Born on October 9, 1937, in Russell, KS, Carol peacefully departed this world on August 25, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
She married Frank Mitchell on April 27, 1957, in Russell, KS. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage. Throughout her life, Carol dedicated herself to her family and her church. She was a military wife, Girl Scout leader and softball coach. Carol worked as a substitute school teacher in South Carolina while living on base. Once Frank retired from the USAF, they moved to Lubbock where Carol worked as a bookkeeper for both Texas Tech University and the South Plains Association of Government.
Carol was a dedicated member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for 50 years. She served as head of the Altar Guild and trained many young acolytes including her own children and grandchildren. Carol enjoyed participating in the prayer shawl ministry as crocheting was a lifelong hobby for her.
Carol is survived by her beloved daughters, Vicki Turnbow, Lynda (James) Pierce, and Denise (Larry) Hostick; grandchildren, Joshua (Kendra) Ball, Autumn Turnbow, Matthew Walker, Joseph Pierce, Sarah Hostick, and Melissa Hostick; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dianne Young; brother, Carl (Gerianne) Kuntzsch along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her husband, Frank; parents, Karl Kuntzsch and Lori Killian; and a brother, Gerald Kuntzsch.
In memory of Carol, her family suggests memorial donations to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lubbock.
