Carmen “Mike” Roa was born on February 18, 1940, to Ramon and Guadalupe Roa in Aspermont, Texas. Mike grew up the 3rd youngest of 18 total (12 boys and 6 girls). From there, he attended Cisco Junior College and got his degree in English from Hardin Simmons University. After that, he received his Master’s in Counseling from Texas Tech University.
Upon graduating, Mike embarked on a 30+ year teaching career and retired in 2000. He spent 30 years teaching 7th grade English at Smylie Wilson Jr High in Lubbock, Texas. During his tenure, he impacted countless lives and impacts that are resonating today in people’s lives.
Mike was known for his wit and his friendly nature. He was always willing to help a neighbor in need. He had three boys, Brian, Carlos, and Alan, with three grandchildren and another on the way.
Mike shared his education with all, never missing a moment to “teach,” whether it was painting, working on a car, or correcting our speech – the opportunity to educate those around him was always taken.
Mike will be missed by all, and we know the impacts he made in our lives will still be felt for years to come.
