The family of Bob Etheredge will celebrate his life of 87 years at 11:00 am on Friday, July 3, 2020, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 45th and Memphis Avenue. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Bob passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020. In support of the health of his family, masks are required to attend his service and visitation. The service will be live-streamed and be available for thirty days on this page. You are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy by selecting the icon.Bob Etheredge was born on April 17, 1933, to Robert and Ethel Shipman Etheredge in Snyder, Texas. Bob married Nancy (Gail) Arnn on July 11, 1964, at the First Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Bob was raised by his Aunt Laura Shipman in Hermleigh after the death of his mother, Ethel. Bob attended Hermleigh Schools and graduated in 1951 and then later moved to Lubbock and attended Texas Tech University and studied Agricultural Economics. During his time at Tech, Bob was an Army ROTC cadet and was commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation. Bob decided on the option to join the Army Reserve for an eight-year commitment. During his time in the Army, Bob served in the Civil Affairs Unit of the Lubbock Army Reserve and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Captain. Bob had several careers in his lifetime that included sales of a variety of different products and services. He also served as an Assistant County Extension Agent for Terry County and then moved into radio broadcasting at KFYO in Lubbock where he spent a few years on the air reporting agricultural news and information. Bob left KFYO and moved to Fort Worth to work for WBAP. Bob married Gail Arnn in 1964 in Lubbock. In the next few years, Karen and Eric were born to Bob and Gail. In 1968, after Eric was born, Bob opened his own business of Bob’s Garden Gate. The following year, Bob returned to radio at KDAV in Lubbock. During Bob’s radio and television career, he worked at KSEL and KCBD where he was the Farm Director and hosted a morning television program during the workweek. After a few years, Bob left radio and television and went to work for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce as the Agriculture Manager. Bob was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Lubbock for the past 50 years and a member of the Seekers Sunday School class. He was also a lifetime member of the PTA, a Little League umpire, a member of the Lubbock Lions Club, a band booster for the Monterey High School Band, and even coached basketball and baseball teams for Eric. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, watching funny movies, telling bad jokes, and spending time with his friends and family.Survivors include his wife, Gail Etheredge; daughter, Karen Carruth, and husband, James; son, Eric Glenn Etheredge, and wife, Allison; three grandchildren, Laura Paige and Peyton Noelle Carruth; and Abby Nicole Etheredge.He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel Shipman Etheredge; aunt, Laura Adeline Shipman and his eight siblings; Elsie Beck, Fern Portis, Howard Etheredge, R. B. Etheredge, Ann Foster, Glenn Etheredge, Troy Etheredge, and Wylie Etheredge.
