Betty Ruth Maness (née Bell), loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 22, 2023. Born on February 10, 1938, in Sterling City, Texas, Betty moved to Colorado City, Texas, during her childhood and spent her last five years living in Tomball, Texas. She was a deeply compassionate person who dedicated her life to her family, her belief in Jesus Christ, and her love of music.
Betty’s creative spirit shone through her lifelong love of singing. For many years, she sang with a band called “Cowboy Review,” generously volunteering her time and talent to perform at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and various other community events. Additionally, she sang with numerous bands at the “Meadow Musical” for over thirty years. In 1980, Betty proudly started a family reunion that continues to this day, showcasing her commitment to maintaining strong family bonds.
Betty was a member of Trinity Church for about 35 years, and her faith played a significant role in her life. As it says in the Bible, “Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19), and Betty did just that, using her gift of song to celebrate her faith and inspire others.
She is survived by her daughters Laura (Robert) Laffitte and Diana (Brett) Smith; her grandchildren David (Doni) Laffitte, Amy (Andrew) Obenhaus, and Matthew (Amy) McClarney; her great-grandchildren Abigail Obenhaus, Lucy McClarney, and Quinn McClarney; and her sisters-in-law Helen (Dewey – deceased) Bell and Nadine (Elgie – deceased) Bell. Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellis Maness; her parents Dolly (Abbie – deceased) Bell and Abbie (Dolly – deceased) Ward; and her brothers Elgie (Nadine) Bell and Dewey (Helen) Bell.
