Anne Letalien was born August 10, 1940 and died February 23, 2017. Her children and her beloved grandson were with her at the time of her passing. Late in life, after raising her young children, Anne fulfilled her dream of becoming a registered nurse. In 1981, that career led her from Hobbs, NM, to Lubbock, Texas. She was hired at University Medical Center and began a career that spanned decades. She worked in Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and Utilization Review until she found an opportunity of a lifetime to move overseas. She moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and worked as a Utilization Review Specialist at King Khalid National Guard Hospital. While overseas, she traveled to Spain, Great Britain, Thailand, China, and numerous other places throughout the Middle East. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1993, she was drawn back to the city she loved, Lubbock. She worked for First Care until her retirement in 2008. In her retirement, she volunteered at UMC and served on the UMC Auxillary Board. She has also worked as a volunteer with AARP Tax Aide for the past seven years.
Survivors include her brother, Chris King of Indiana; her son, Michael of Lubbock; daughter, Courtney and her partner, Tracy, of Flower Mound, Texas; her grandson, Stephen, who was her light and her joy; and Stephen’s mother, Sherry, of Lubbock.
Being a nurse, and her unwavering desire to give back to the medical community, Anne’s wish was to donate her body to the TTUHSC for training and education of doctors and nurses of the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UMC Auxillary Scholarship fund (602 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX 79415), in memory of Anne Letalien. These scholarships are granted to students currently employed by UMC who desire a career in the medical field.
