Ann Rippel Horkey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2024, at the age of 93. Ann was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on August 21, 1930, to Archibald McCormick Rippel and Charlotte Lawrence Rippel.
Ann’s life was one of dedication, service, and love. Ann will be remembered for her remarkable achievements at Monticello Girls School where she served as president of her class. Her academic journey led her to graduate from Oklahoma University in 1952 with a degree in education. She was a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member and served as president of her pledge class. OU is where she met her future husband, Joe. They married on February 16, 1952.
Ann was a pillar of the arts, music, symphony, social, and church communities for many years. Her impact on these organizations will be felt for generations to come.
Ann is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Rice Horkey, and her cherished children Kathryn Horkey-Wolff, Susan Horkey, Rip Horkey and wife Nancy, Rice Horkey and wife Kathy, along with her adored grandchildren Travis Wolff, Ashley Collins (Logan), Trey Horkey (Chelsey), Kelsey Horkey and Kenneth Horkey. Memaw loved her great-grandchildren, Grace, Corbin and Owen Collins, London, Jude and Rhodes Horkey and Kassidy Horkey.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Tanglewood Estate and Hospice of Lubbock for their compassionate care and support during Ann’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Lubbock, Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice.
As a dear friend commented, “Ann was a great lady with a joyous and (sometimes salty) sense of humor.”
Ann Rippel Horkey’s legacy of love, service, and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
