On August 12, 1932, Tony, Sr. was born to Raymondo and Natividad Aguilar in Presidio, TX. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army where he served as a drill instructor. After being discharged, Tony joined the Artesia Police Department in 1959. In 1961, he was the first Hispanic officer hired by the Hobbs Police Department. Along with being promoted to Lieutenant in 1974, Tony was selected as commander of the original SWAT team. After 26 years he retired from the Hobbs PD and became a Municipal Judge. Tony was honored as Officer of the Year in 1975 and Hispanic Man of the Year for Cinco de Mayo in 1988.Survivors include his children, Tony (Nancy) Aguilar, Marla (Ken) Ritter, Israel (Cheryl) Aguilar, Michael (Ratna) Walter, Darla (Don) Chandler, Felicia (Jermey) Porras; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild; and three brothers.He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diana Aguilar and one brother.Tony Aguilar, Sr. passed away on November 11, 2020.
