Thelma Lowery passed away March 28, 2019. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. MDT on Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Prairie Haven Cemetery, Hobbs, NM.Thelma Lowery was born on May 2, 1934 to the late John and Launa (James) Cain in Edna, OK. She graduated from Breckenridge Nursing School and worked as a registered nurse. Thelma married Donald Mayo Lowery on July 31, 1955. In 1957, she moved to Hobbs and was an active member of and volunteer for the Hobbs Women’s Civic Club and the Hobbs High Tennis Team Booster Club. She also donated her time and energy to the Good Samaritan Village and Meals on Wheels. Following the death of her husband, Donald on May 13, 2003, Thelma moved to Midland and in 2015, she made Lubbock her home. Thelma loved helping others and was always willing to support her community in whatever way she could.Survivors include her children, Valerie Ann McCready, Cynthia Cain Lowery, and Christopher Mayo Lowery and wife, Ilana Ruber Lowery; grandchildren, Caitlin Tague and husband, Kevin; Nathaniel McCready and wife, Rachel; Benjamin Lowery Parra and wife, Kristine Okimoto; great-grandchildren, Fay and Eve Mairin McCready; brother, Edward Cain; niece, Shirley Parker; and brother-in-law, Dick and wife, Anne Lowery.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Lowery; and a brother, Harold Cain.

When Ben was in my 3rd grade class, Thelma volunteered to help me in all kinds of ways. We became wonderful friends. During that year, my mother was suffering from the beginning of Alzheimer's and often dropped by to visit me during class time while I was teaching. Thelma always took her on a walk and visited with her so Mom had company and I could do my job. Thelma's kindness and compassion meant the world to me. She is high upon my list of the women I have loved and admired. God bless you, Thelma, in your heavenly home.
