On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, our beloved Ron Betenbough went home to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by his loved ones and passed peacefully at the age of 83.
Born in Lubbock on January 8, 1941, Ron grew up in Tatum, New Mexico, and graduated from Tatum High School. As a young boy, he would shepherd his parents’ sheep along the rural highways, which turned out to be a foreshadowing of his life’s calling to care deeply and faithfully for an extensive flock of people.
Ron was best known for his generous spirit, intelligent mind, and quick-witted humor. He had a joke for every occasion and loved to bring laughter to those around him. He held a genuine passion for people and a drive to serve his community. He was involved with numerous non-profit organizations and community outreach projects, and some of his favorite roles include being President of the Lubbock Lions Club, City Champion for Lemonade Day, partnering with Texas Boys Ranch, and founding Kingdom Towers.
Ron started building houses in 1964, and a passion for real estate was born. In 1992, he joined his son, Rick, in founding Betenbough Homes to provide affordable, high-quality homes for families across West Texas. Ron was dedicated to bringing glory to the Lord through his work, always striving to be a faithful steward with the resources he was given. When asked what his biggest pet peeve at work was, Ron responded, “Not being able to interact enough with the people the Lord puts around me.” He found joy and purpose in building others up.
He married the love of his life, Connie Meredith, in 1986. They shared 38 wonderful years and built a life devoted to one another, family, friends, and God. They attended Raintree Christian Church, where Ron enjoyed being a greeter, welcoming everyone through the door, and going on weekly calls to those homebound or in the hospital. He was a dedicated husband, father, and friend, always quick to volunteer his wisdom, time, and resources to others. He leaves a legacy of love and generosity. We rejoice knowing the Lord welcomed him home with, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Toomy Betenbough, his brother, Wayne Betenbough, and his firstborn son, Rick Betenbough; he is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his sons, Sean Betenbough, Chris Snyder, Sean Snyder; his daughters, Tohi Betenbough, Huni Betenbough, Jeannie Pendergast, Ann Meredith, Chelsey Betenbough, and daughter-in-law, Holly Betenbough; 14 loving grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
