Roger Andrew Holmes, a gifted and talented artist, met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 19, 2024. He was born on March 16, 1951, in Alamosa, Colorado to the late Eddie and Beth Holmes. After graduating from Los Alamos (New Mexico) High School, Roger enrolled at Texas Tech University to study Architecture. He realized quicky that his real passion in life was art and what he could create with his hands. Roger’s life was a masterpiece shaped by creativity, love, and a profound dedication to his craft. His artistic spirit shone brightly from an early age, and his talents grew to encompass a wide array of mediums. A master potter, skilled illustrator, watercolor painter, and woodworker, Roger’s hands could transform raw materials into breathtaking works of art. His contributions to the art community were vast, including his many years of service as the Clay Studio Manager at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts and his work at House Bronze, where he enriched the lives of those around him for over five decades.
An avid supporter of the Texas Tech Sports community, Roger found joy in blending his passions for art and athletics. He was as talented and creative as he was trustworthy, friendly, and intelligent. Roger was known for his openness to mentoring aspiring artists, sharing not only his skills but also his boundless enthusiasm for the artistic process. Surrounded by a community of fellow creators, he found inspiration in collaboration and connection.
Above all, Roger’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He also took great pride in his five beloved grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of creativity and love. Roger’s life reflected his artistry; vivid, meaningful, and deeply inspiring. Those who knew him were touched by his talent, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his craft and his community. His legacy will live on in the countless pieces of art he created and the many lives he influenced.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie, and beloved mother and best friend, Beth Holmes. He is survived by the mother of his two children, Carol Frazier Holmes, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brandon Hughes and their children Hannah and Hudson of Lubbock, Texas. As well as his son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Brittany Holmes and their children Harlan, Henley, and Hollis of Fort Worth, Texas. He also leaves behind his sister Ruth and her husband Doug Chadwick, his sister Gretta Curry and sister Dee Brewer, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be planned for sometime in the spring.
