A constant across them all though – he loved deeply and was loved by all. He passed away on November 17, 2021, surrounded by his family.Rick was born on December 18, 1949, to Homer and Jo Jones in Brownfield, TX. He was a wild child, running the Wellman streets with his brothers until he met and later married Georgia Benson on November 15, 1973. Rick settled down and began his family.A survivor of lung disease, Rick was drawn to helping others who had similar issues and studied to be a respiratory therapist. For 33 years, Rick helped patients throughout his medical career. He went above and beyond, visiting with patients after they had left the hospital and his professional care. In particular, he loved the kids who suffered from cystic fibrosis. From baking them cookies to delighting them with his hijinks, “Tricky Ricky” sought to bring joy and delight to their lives.Rick and Georgia dreamed of expanding their family and those dreams came true with Coby and Shelly. From ball games to soccer, graduation ceremonies to weddings, Rick’s life was full with his children and their activities. And he was there, cheering them on, encouraging them – sometimes a little too exuberantly. And his love of family was not contained to his own children, extending to his nephews and nieces. A child at heart, he was everyone’s favorite uncle. But nothing was like the love Rick had for his granddaughters. He embraced his favorite job as being Paw Paw to Kierra, Kyla, Kyrstyn, Brooklyn, Piper, and Ophelia. Blessed with these sweet six girls, Rick celebrated every day he had with them.A man this full of love and joy leaves behind a legacy of compassion and kindness that will never be duplicated.
