A visitation to celebrate the life of Richard John Adamcik, 76, is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. A Graveside service will take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. He died on Monday, April 24, 2023. Richard John Adamcik was born on January 24, 1947, to John and Mary Mraz Adamcik in New York City, NY. He married Sylvia [Quillin] on July 18, 1968, in New York City.
Richard attended public schools in NYC and graduated from Aviation High School in Queens, NY. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force serving in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand. After his service, he worked for TWA at Kennedy Airport in New York. Richard and Sylvia moved back to Lubbock in 1972. In 1973 he went to work for Lubbock Power & Light and retired in 1999.
He loved the outdoors and spent much of his leisure time fishing, hunting, and camping. He also loved classic cars, especially “muscle cars” He loved children and animals and donated monthly to various charities for them. He was also very patriotic and donated monthly to charities for veterans.
Richard is survived by his wife Sylvia Adamcik; his children Rich Adamcik & wife Charla, Jonny Adamcik & wife Charlene; grandchildren Madison Adamcik, Jonathan Adamcik, Ryan Adamcik, Franky Adamcik; and his brother Dennis Adamcik. He is preceded in death by his parents John & Mary Adamcik.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or any local animal rescue organization.
