Loy Vasquez Sr., age 80, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 8, 1945, in Seguin, Texas, to the late Felix Vasquez Sr. and Lorenza Leos Vasquez. Loy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Pena, and his brothers Martin, John, and Manuel Vasquez.
Affectionately known as “Cheese” by family and friends, Loy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Vasquez. Loy and Maria shared 61 beautiful years of marriage together, a true example of lifelong love and commitment.
He is also survived by their children: Loy Vasquez Jr. (Kristy), Tony Vasquez, Johnny Vasquez (Leticia), and Mary Duenes (Jimmy). Loy was a proud grandfather to Kelly, Jacob, Brandi, Kevin, Matthew, Isaia, Taylor, Nataya, and Landin, and a cherished great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Fish, Fabian, and Andrew Vasquez, and two sisters, Gloria Roberts, and Maria Felice Dela Cruz.
Loy dedicated 31 years of service in maintenance at Roosevelt ISD, where he took great pride in his work and the school community he served. He loved playing music, especially the accordion, and spent decades on the softball field, playing the game he loved with heart and passion. Over the course of 46 years, he also built a cherished collection of classic collectibles, including Barbies, Starting Lineup Sports Figures, Hot Wheels and other rare items. He had a remarkable eye and always seemed to know the value of things, whether sentimental or material.
In honor of Loy’s love for collecting, guests are invited to take a Hot Wheel in his memory, a small keepsake to carry a piece of his spirit forward.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love, support, and prayers during this time. Loy’s legacy of love, music, strength, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
