Kathryn “Miss Kay” Marie Newton, a beloved sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 30, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on October 19, 1929, in Matador, Texas, Kathryn brought joy and laughter to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Miss Kay was a graduate of Floydada High School, class of 1947.
Kathryn was an independent spirit, known for her fiery personality and sweet demeanor. She had a passion for country and western music, often found singing and dancing to her favorite songs. She began writing songs at 13. A savvy businesswoman, Kathryn enjoyed a successful career as a bookkeeper, demonstrating her sharp mind and dedication to her work. She released a record, “Just Because” as well as published a book of poetry titled “Shadows of Love.”
Family was immensely important to Kathryn, and she is survived by her sister, Jean Rhoten, along with her adoring nieces and nephews: Crystal (Cody) Jenkins, Rick Rhoten, Butch Rhoten, Dana Rhoten, Ann Atkins, and Jackie Ferris, Bill and Ronnie Crumpton, and many other family and friends. Her love for her family and her beloved cats made her home a warm and welcoming place.
Kathryn’s memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Newton, parents, William and Billie Crumpton, brother, Jack Crumpton, and niece Kathy Crumpton.
