On Sunday, August 31^st 2025, Dr. John Thomas, beloved husband of Keri, Proud dad to Andrew and son of the late Rev. P.S. and Mary Thomas, entered into his well-deserved Eternal Rest.

After a routine Sunday of Church, Lunch, Bike Ride with his son, John complained of some discomfort in his chest. He was rushed to his favorite hospital, Lubbock Heart Hospital, where he was given extreme care and attention from all required specialists. All their valiant efforts were not enough to keep John from joining his Parents, Sister and Nephew in his Heavenly Abode.

John, who was a renowned surgeon in the United States and around the world, lived his Judeo-Christian faith openly and boldly. He used his skills as a physician and surgeon to serve humanity the world over. In life not only did he do his part to Make America Great Again, he also was a driving force in leaving the world a better place than he found it. He did that thru an organization he founded in 1999: Operation HOPE: HOPE stands for Healing Outreach for People Everywhere.

John was raised in Houston, Texas but spent almost 25 years in Lubbock. He was well known in the community as an upstanding Texan and Republican. He leaves behind an irreplaceable Vacuum in the lives of an army of Family and Friends, here in the US as well as globally.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations made to the HOPE fondation in his honor.

To the family of Dr. John Thomas. I just saw the FB page and was shocked! I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I always appreciated John’s help in the OR with difficult gyn cases. He was a kind man. He will definitely be missed in the medical community. Dr. Doug Lampkin, OB/GYN

To the family left behind by Dr John Thomas. I just wanted to share my condolences and prayers with your family. Dr Thomas saved my physical life back in a rough bout with Covid. He even told me when I came back 2 weeks later that he had prayed for me but didn't know if I was going to live long enough to get back to my checkup with him 2 weeks later. He was my angel in disguise. After my healing and prayers, and my making plea with our Holy God, my spiritual life changed also. Jesus healed me physically and spiritually those few weeks. I am still alive and well, but every time the weather changes I have a reminder in my chest about going to Dr Thomas, and also the promise I made to Christ. About a year after my recovery I gave testimonies in Churches I Canyon and Lubbock. Moving on to now, I am a devoted participant in the Kairos Prison Ministries, I have taken youth boys from our community to church camp and discipled many of them to salvations. I also disciple in my community and where I go. I know that all of us have a very short time on this earth now, I didn't realize that until I was knocking on deaths door and through Dr Thomas, God gave me a second chance. Keri, I remember visiting your office for a medical consultation years ago and how warm and caring you and Dr. John were to me. Connecting again with you in the trip to Austin to support the Bluebonnet curriculum was meaningful and fun. You are in my prayers. Thank you for always being such a grounding, loving person. Always here for you. Thank you Lord for shining your light through this family into all the world and using them to cancel the enemies’ words and replace them with your words of truth and love. I hope upon reading this message that perhaps Dr. Thomas’s family will reconnect with me. Dr. Thomas to frequently for us at Dallas ATLS. He was one of the best instructors we’ve ever had, we as a company on grieving on this sad news. I personally along with my wife are in shock. We met him a month ago and Amarillo, I spoke to him a week ago, and I was looking forward to working alongside him in October and November of this year. His smile, his personality. He was a warm and generous man. I don’t think I will forget him. I wish I had more time to chill out with him. Thank you for everything Dr. Thomas.

My deepest condolences to Keri and Andrew along with the rest of the family. I’ve known Dr. Thomas for over 2 decades. He was instrumental in saving my dad’s life. He found out what was wrong with him was able to instruct the ICU at Lakeside in helping him recover from his pneumonia. He and Dr. Roger saved my dads life that day and I will forever be grateful for that. He was a constant at Lubbock Heart hospital, I will forever miss him. We worked side by side for many years and I will miss him. He was not only a surgeon I worked with he was a friend.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My heartfelt sympathies are with you.

Dr. John was always so great to me and Cade. He did 5 of Cade’s hernia surgeries and every time we went in he was always so uplifting. After my first husband, Chris, passed away and we saw Dr. John he was always there to support Cade, with a hug, word of encouragement or just a word of wisdom. Dr. John was there when I was crying in his clinic because I was so overwhelmed being mom and dad and it happening abruptly. Keri, I want you to know I am here for you also. Please call or text if you need someone who can relate. Also, if Andrew needs a buddy let me know and Cade can be that for him. Since he can relate. I love the entire Thomas family. Dr Thomas…. I just spoke to him 2 weeks ago…. And thought I’d be in there to see him next week. I’m in shock, as are many, I’m sure. So much to say, but I’ll suffice to say he will always be remembered as my favorite of Drs, a champion for God, his family, and his patients. My prayers go out to all the family, but especially to Andrew. Your dad was so proud of not just you, but of the person and man you’re growing up to be. I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of JT. I have known him for so many years, and I will always carry with me the memories of the good old times we shared in New Jersey during his visits. From the very beginning, he treated me not just as a family ever since Joji and I became close friends, and even more so after his marriage to Minoo. JT was a man of great determination and perseverance. He worked tirelessly and with unwavering dedication to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor, even when the odds were against him during his school years. I always admired his strength and commitment. Whenever we met, he encouraged me with my own career goals. Beyond his achievements, what I will remember most is his kindness, his spirit, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued and loved. I will miss him dearly, but I find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, in a better place in heaven. His life and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. My heartfelt prayers are with Minoo, Joji, Gladson, Aby, Jeff, Gloriammama, Grace, and the rest of the family during this difficult time. We will never forget meeting him in the airport when he came up to Luke and talked to him for the longest time. Then we met your whole beautiful family when we came to Texas and then came down again for the Hope banquet. You guys have been a special part of our lives!! Keri and Andrew, John Thomas made a difference worldwide with his many missions through Operation Hope... but he was loved and appreciated in so many ways here in Lubbock. I know of several people who have told me he saved their lives during the Covid era. But he was also greatly appreciated as a Sunday School teacher. He taught our class at First United Methodist several times. His knowledge went far beyond medical care. He shared many personal stories and life lessons that were invaluable. I Remember in the early 80’s when Dr John Thomas came to Houston as a youngster. He worked hard and lived a fruitful life bringing hope to the hopeless, joy to the less fortunate ; even though it was a short life he did more than most people could do who lived into the eighties and nineties. My grandson had a school assignment to mail Flat Stanley to a loved one to see where he travelled. That day I had an appointment with Dr. John. He got a good laugh at our appointment. We will always remember him as a very kind and good hearted man. I really enjoyed hearing about his vacations too. He will be dearly missed.

What an honor to have met and known Dr T. I always enjoyed Doc and his family coming through security at the airport. He was such a humble man and genuine heart. Prayers to his wife and kiddo.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember meeting Dr. Thomas when I worked at Heartline Women’s Clinic. What struck me about him was his ability to make everyone feel like someone.
