John Henry Kidd, Jr.
“Bo” • “Hotrod” • “Johnny”
November 12, 1950 – August 2, 2025
John Henry Kidd, Jr., lovingly known as “Bo” to his grandchildren and “Hotrod” to his childhood friends, passed away peacefully at his home in Lubbock, Texas, on August 2, 2025, at 2:30 a.m., surrounded by his family. He was 74 years old.
John was born on November 12, 1950, in Malvern, Arkansas, and grew up at the El Paso Natural Gas camp in Midkiff, Texas — a place and community that shaped him and where he became part of the cherished “El Paso Natural Gas Plant Brats” group. He attended school in Rankin, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Donna Hunter. They graduated from Rankin High School together in May of 1969 and were married that August, beginning a lifelong journey filled with love, laughter, and family.
John earned degrees from Howard Payne University in 1973 and Angelo State University in 1974. In 1976, he began his career with Champion Chemicals, launching what would become a long and successful path in the oilfield chemical business. In 1987, he founded his own company, Advanced Production Services, Inc., and built a respected and thriving business through dedication and hard work.
John had a deep and unwavering love for Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he lived it out daily. He was a spiritual rock for his family — a source of wisdom from his experiences, comfort for those in need or hurting, and was always willing to pray for anyone that asked. He led by example, showing his children and grandchildren what it meant to walk with the Lord and to trust in His plan. His faith was not just spoken, it was lived out, especially in his generosity.
More than anything, John loved people. He had a gift for making everyone feel loved and important. Whether cheering someone on, pulling a good-natured prank, or simply making people laugh until they cried, John was a master of bringing joy into any room. He was truly one of a kind — a bigger-than-life personality that can never be replaced.
John and Donna were most proud of their family. They were blessed with two children, Amy Michelle Kidd Hudson and John Cody Kidd, and joyfully welcomed Curtis Hudson and Kristal Whitten Kidd into the family when their children fell in love with them. His greatest joys continued with the birth of his grandchildren: Hannah Jo Hudson Mills (Kyle), Benjamin Curtis Hudson, Jaycee Kindal Kidd Bender (Trae), Abbey Grace Kidd, and John Jaxson Kidd. Even more special were his great-grandchildren: Walker John Mills, Maddox Jay Mills, and Ryder Jo Mills.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Kidd, Sr., in March 2003, and his great-grandson, Ryder Jo Mills, in December 2024. Their memories live on in the countless stories, laughs, and love shared through generations.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Melonie Park Church in Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in John’s memory to Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center or Centers for Children and Families, both in Midland, and causes close to his heart.
