She married Kenneth Wayne McClendon on August 6, 1950, at First Methodist Church in Wellington, Texas. JoAnn was Valedictorian for Wellington High School in 1950. Years later, she attended Texas Tech University. JoAnn was employed as a teacher’s aide and church secretary and retired as an executive secretary at the age of 75.Her passion and first priority was her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, cooking, and reading in her spare time. JoAnn was a long-time 4-H leader and sang in the church choir. After her retirement, she discovered a love of quilting. It gave her great joy to gift her family the works of art she lovingly created. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Since moving to Lubbock, she has been a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church.Beloved by her family, she is survived by her children, Karen Fanning, Kathe (Audie) Corning, David (Diane) McClendon, and Kerri Nelson. Known by her grandchildren as “DoJo,” she is survived by grandchildren Gabriel Fanning, Tyler (Meghan) Fanning, Grant (Christina) Corning, Katie Corning, Marie (Beth) Luna, Lindsay (BJ) Travis, Jamie McClendon, Adam (Crystal) Myers, and Rachel (Arnold) Garcia; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Theodore, and Harvey Fanning, Hudson, Hunter, and Noah Corning, Nora Stephenson, Hannah Luna, Quinn, and Reese Garcia; siblings, Jimmy (Joyce) Thompson, and Jan Chambers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Eva Thompson, spouse, Kenneth Wayne McClendon, and brother, Jerry Thompson.
