It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy Ronald Wilson. Born on October 19, 1936, in Drumright, Oklahoma, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed away on November 4, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was a proud graduate of Drumright High School and after graduation he volunteered for the National Guard, serving in the reserves. On October 11, 1957, he married the love of his life, Nancy Shore, and together they embarked on a journey that took them to various states due to Jim’s career in the fuel industry. Jim’s work for ST Services led him to Alabama before transferring to Amarillo and finally to Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he worked until his retirement. In 2021, they moved to Lubbock to be near their son and daughter-in-law.
A true cowboy, Jim had a lifelong passion for calf roping and later enjoyed team roping. Roping took Jim and his family around southern New Mexico, where he gained many friendships and mentored young cowboys, including his son and son-in-law. In addition, he was a talented musician, singing and playing the guitar, playing the steel guitar, fiddle, and bass in many country bands in the area, more notably at the Golden Spur.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, Scott (Sheila) Wilson; daughters, Lee Ann (Leland) Bain and Amy (David) Pinnell; grandchildren, Sarah (Brandon) Corley, Seth Wilson, Leah (Cody) Garcia, Lauren Bain, Nicole (Mike) Thomas, and Clint (Jennifer) Pinnell; eleven great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Esther Wilson, and siblings, Darrell Wilson, Don Wilson, Freddie Wilson, and Wanda Bennett.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at Michaels Funeral Home Chapel, Drumright, OK, on Friday, November 8, 2024, with burial to follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
