Jean Kerr Goddard, 83, of Lubbock, Texas passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Jean was born March 15th, 1942 to Louis Clendon and Justine Ince Kerr in Lubbock, Texas. That special birthday was also shared by her beloved identical twin sister Buffy Jane. She graduated Monterey High School, where she met her husband Jimmy Goddard. They were married April 26, 1961 while attending Texas Tech University and shared a loving marriage of 65 years.
Of the many interests and talents that Jean enjoyed, she started her life with a love of ballet. She often shared stories about studying ballet under the very strict Mr. Band and achieving the goal of dancing on point. She attended J. T. Hutchinson Junior High and then became a Monterey Plainsman in 1956.
She attended Monterey with her twin sister where they were fondly known as “Jean/Jane” as they were often hard to tell apart. At 15, they got a two-toned blue Ford and enjoyed the exciting time of the 1950’s in Lubbock when stylish cars stopped by the Hi-Di-Ho for sodas with Elvis on the radio and while fellow classmate Buddy Holly was starting to play rock-n-roll with the Crickets.
Jean was dedicated to her family. She loved being a part of the big Kerr, Dunagan & Ince families and considered many cousins, aunts and uncles to be close friends. She loved being a mother, wife, and homemaker especially during the time that she lived at Lake Ransom Canyon, while raising her children.
The Ransom Canyon days were filled with lots of fun outdoor activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, riding motorcycles, ball games and most importantly, lots of friends. At that time, she enjoyed regularly being part of a bowling league and hosting her bridge club.
Jean was particularly gifted with design and decor, and very much enjoyed joining Jimmy in designing and building two beautiful homes. The first home in Lake Ransom was contemporary with modern style furnishings, the second a farm house style in Lake Ridge topped with a copper weather vane that she lovingly restored.
While in Lake Ridge, Jean started playing golf, and followed the legacy of her mother Justine, who was a Lubbock women’s golf champion many times over. Jean was an active member for many years of the Lakeridge Women’s Golf Association.
In years after, Jean enjoyed visiting her parents in Canyon Lake and her daughter and grandchildren in Austin. At this time, she developed a love for the Hill Country, especially the bluebonnets, and she began to paint the scenery using watercolors. She pursued watercolor painting with a true passion and became a very accomplished artist. She occasionally displayed her work at the Lubbock Arts Festival.
Family members & loved ones left to cherish her memory include her husband Jimmy Goddard; son Deck Goddard & Karla Ross; daughter Missy Goddard Speer & Wayne Speer; grandsons Quinn Speer, Griffin Speer & Sawyer Speer; nieces Kara Bower & Danika Knieriem.
