Gentle Ben, as he was called by many, made the cotton fields of Lubbock his home. He loved his family and a big Christmas.People from all walks of life gravitated toward Ben. He had a knack for welcoming anyone into his home and barn with a kind smile, hello, and a coke. Throughout his life, Ben tended to his family and anyone else in need.Ben was a man of integrity who worked hard and could build or repair anything. His children and granddaughters worked beside him and have grown to appreciate what they can do from vehicle and trailer repairs to barn or home construction. Ben also enjoyed life and many stories have been told about his raccoon hunting days.Above all, Ben was a horseman, and like his brothers was an expert rider and trainer with a keen eye for a good horse. Ben spent many hours horseback throughout his life, and when he could no longer ride, he spent countless hours coaching his children and grandchildren about the finer points of horsemanship. His lifetime in the horse industry ranged from quarter horse racing to competitive events such as team roping and barrel racing. Ben always rode a good horse whether he was competing in an event or producing the event.Loved ones that will miss him until they meet again include his daughters Stacey Barrington and Benette Little, son Matthew Barrington and wife Lisa, granddaughters, Tristyn Rinehart, Katherine Barrington, and Clara Barrington. Several cousins, nieces, and nephews including Ronnie Barrington, Merrill Barrington, Shane Barrington, Chuck Barrington, Sherri Pollard, John Hammond, Nick Hammond, Mike Erwin, Brad Erwin, Darin Erwin, Brenda Erwin, Royce McNeil, and Claude Lee Groves.
