Garene Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the age of 85 in Lubbock, Texas. Born on June 28, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas, Garene touched countless lives through her passion for education and her love of music.
Garene graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and began her career as a dedicated teacher, specializing in Home Economics at both New Home and Slaton Schools. However, upon the birth of her son, Stacy, she embraced the role of a stay-at-home mother with enthusiasm and grace. She devoted her life to caring for her family, eventually finding joy in her grandchildren, Taylor and Connor, who brought immense happiness to her life.
Garene was not only a nurturing mother; she was also a talented musician. For many years, she served as the church organist at First Baptist Church Slaton. Her musical talents later took her to New Home Baptist Church, where she continued to play and also took on the important role of Church Clerk. Her love for music was matched only by her devotion to her faith and her community.
Garene was a devoted wife for 51 years, cherishing the bond she shared with her late husband. She leaves behind her loving son, Stacy, and his wife, Amie, and her cherished grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Smith.
Garene’s kindness, wisdom, and creativity will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will forever be remembered for her love of family, her musical spirit, and her unwavering faith.
Garene was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne Smith, and her parents, William and Nora Harris.
