Florita Gilchrist was born May 1939, to Alfredo and Agapita (Ventar) Villamor in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from Fontana High School. Florita married Paul Gilchrist on August 17, 1957, in Fontana, CA. After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Lubbock in 2001. She was a member of MacKenzie Terrace Baptist Church.
As the Christian Matriarch of her family, she modeled her belief in God’s word to love others through her kindness and acceptance of those around her. She continued this example as a Christian wife by diligently following the job description set forth by her husband. She was to take care of him, their child and spend the money.
Florita is survived by her daughter, Dana (James) Bell; grandchildren, Candace (Ryan Alvarado) Brown, and Robert (Erin) Brown; great-grandchildren, Jason, Jonavin, and Andais Brown; sixteen siblings; and a special friend, Duane Howell.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Gilchrist; and three siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the Gilchrist family has designated the Southwest Parkinson’s Society at www.swparkinson.org or St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org, for memorial contributions in Florita’s memory.
